Today we’re going to talk about body focused, or somatic coaching, and how it can help you calm your overthinking mind, connect to your body and instincts and reach a deeper level of confidence and calm in your everyday life.
Hi I’m Christina, I’m a body-focused, somatic coach and if you’re interested in trying this transformational approach I’d love to chat more, feel free to book a call on the link below.
So what is body-focused coaching? Somatic, body based coaching engages your whole intelligence-not just your mind, but your body as well. Both myself and my clients have seen powerful transformations occur when you align your mind, body and emotions holistically, in this will help you in all areas of life- such as shifting to a career you love, building better relationships or simply developing a more loving relationship with yourself and your body
So how does it work? - So this methodology focuses on the mind-body connection.
Instead of focusing solely on mental strategies or thought patterns as you might do in traditional therapies and coaching, somatic coaching (and by the way somatic simply means the body) actually shifts attention to the body instead of the mind—helping you develop awareness of physical sensations like tight shoulders, a constricted throat, or butterflies in your stomach. Beneath these physical sensations there are often very valuable insights. By gently noticing these sensations
and allowing them to be present as you breathe and move into them, your physical tension often begins to soften, and various thoughts and feelings that may have been buried often make themselves known. For example, behind your tight shoulders, you may discover you are actually feeling pretty anxious about something in your life, and those anxious thoughts and emotions are resulting in the tight shoulders. So by focusing on your body, you are revealing deeper feeling and thoughts that maybe have been buried and stuck and do need to be illuminated.
So what do we actually we do once we discover these deeper layers of feelings and thoughts? Well we work with them- again not be mental anaylsis, which we all do a lot of anyway, mostly with limited effectiveness, but instead via body. As we continue to focus on the tension, we breathe into, it, we move the body subtly and we make sound. And as we continue to do this, the limiting beliefs you hold, emotional, frozen tensions in the body begin to move, and shift. They have to- they are simply energy stored in the body which will move into floe when we allow them to be there and express the fully.
And it’s not an easy one and done process necessarily. You may notice that your tight shoulders actually shift to a feeling of tightness in the chest. So what do we do? We repeat the exact same process. We notice and allow the tightness in the chest to be there, we accept it without resistance, we breathe into it, we move the body and we make sound, and we express it until this feeling again shows deeper insights or sifts to a different part of the body,
And we tend to repeat the cycle a number of times in our sessions. what happens a lot of times is that we end the session in a place of feeling we have completed the emotions and tensions in the body. and a sense of calmness and clarity emergy, and you get very clear on your next steps- and this is coming from a deeper level of knowledge, not just your mind, but the deep knowing of the body. Much like the wisdom behind the phrase “trust your gut,” somatic coaching helps you access your inner guidance by quieting stress and mental overactivity.
So have you tried traditional coaching or therapies before and noticed that things still aren’t shifting in your life? perhaps body-based caching will help you. I offer one-off sessions as well as longer packages, and if you are interested please do reach out to book a free consultation call or taster session to see how this powerful approach can help you shift what’s holding you back from reaching your potential
