Somatic Coaching & Its Transformative Power

Somatic coaching invites you to work with your full intelligence—not only your thoughts, but the innate wisdom stored throughout your body. When your physical, emotional and mental selves come into alignment, you create a clear and potent pathway for releasing what holds you back and stepping into your goals with confidence.

What Does “Somatic” Really Mean?

The term somatic originates from the Greek word soma, meaning “body.” In this approach, we integrate body-based tools alongside mindset work to help you uncover the patterns, blocks and emotional imprints that keep you from living the life you envision.

Why Choose a Body-Centered Coaching Style?

Western culture has long elevated the mind above all else, often dismissing the subtle but profound knowledge your body carries. Fortunately, this is shifting. Modalities like Somatic Experiencing and influential books such as The Body Keeps the Score and Waking the Tiger have highlighted that trauma and emotional imprints live in the body—meaning healing must involve the body as well.

But somatic work isn’t reserved for trauma recovery alone. Everyday challenges—anxiety, chronic tension, limiting beliefs, habitual emotional reactions—also show up physically. Traditional mindset strategies often fall short because they don’t reach the deeper layers where these patterns live. This is where somatic coaching becomes especially effective.

How Somatic Embodiment Coaching Works

Somatic coaching redirects your attention inward, helping you notice sensations such as tightness in the chest, knots in the stomach or heaviness in the shoulders. These sensations often carry information your mind hasn’t fully processed.

By breathing with these sensations, allowing them space, and sometimes bringing in movement or gentle sound, the body begins to unwind. As layers soften, emotional blocks and limiting narratives naturally lose their grip. What arises in their place is clarity—a quiet, intuitive knowing that guides your next steps. Much like the old saying “follow your gut,” somatic coaching helps you tap into this deeper inner guidance by settling the nervous system and calming mental noise.

What a Typical Session Looks Like

Every practitioner works a little differently, but here’s a general outline of how an online somatic embodiment session in my practice usually unfolds:

Sessions typically last between 60 and 90 minutes and are conducted virtually. This is a gentle, non-touch process.

We begin with a brief grounding meditation to shift attention away from constant thinking and into the body. You’ll be invited to notice specific areas and breathe into them. Once you’re more connected to your internal landscape, we drop a question into the body and observe what arises somatically.

After this, we transition into a more traditional coaching conversation focused on your session topic and the outcome you want to reach. Unlike therapy, we spend minimal time exploring past stories. The emphasis is on your present experience—what’s happening now in your body—and where you want to go.

Then we return to the body for the core somatic work. With eyes closed, you’ll tune into the places where sensations feel strongest or most active. Through breath, acceptance, and sometimes movement or sound, these sensations unfold, shift and release. Emotions may arise in layers—initial physical tension, then stronger feelings like frustration or agitation, often followed by deeper vulnerability like sadness or fear. Once these emotions are met and felt, a sense of spacious calm, insight and peace often emerges.

This process is powerful, yet it’s essentially a skill anyone can learn. Being guided in a supportive space helps you build confidence, and over time you gain the tools to navigate difficult emotions and limiting beliefs on your own. Once you know how to regulate your nervous system and work with your body’s signals, you’re better equipped to create clarity and move decisively toward what you want.
